May was…a month that happened. It was a largely stressful month—every year about this time I have a fun existential crisis about what am I doing with my life, am I moving or staying here, am I moving out of DC entirely, am I falling prey to one more year syndrome? (Spoiler alert: I’ve been in my apartment five years and at my job for three. There’s been a lot of one more year syndrome buuuuuuuut that also doesn’t mean I don’t freak out for a few months every year anyway before ultimately deciding to stay put.) Nothing like a little annual existential crisis to spice up your life! Continue reading “May 2019: I went shopping. And that’s okay”
Posting this (barely) still in May still counts as on time! It’s been a busy month, what can I say.
Anyway, April started off with a bang with 19 days of work straight: I worked both Saturday and Sunday shifts the first two weekends of the month. Continue reading “April 2019: big job changes (but no new jobs)”
March was a whirlwind of a month, and the beginning of it was approximately 6357654357 years ago. Wanna know how I know that? Because the month started off with AYCE sushi (a #DCmoneynerds tradition) (also, YUM) the last time Military Dollar was in town. And that was actual ages ago. What else has happened in the lifetime since? Let’s get into it. Continue reading “March 2019: holy income, Batman!”
I have an excellent excuse for not having posted last week: Gwen from Fiery Millennials is now my roommate and was moving in! Admittedly, it’s my fault for naively assuming I’d have time to write Wednesday night and that, say, putting together a bed wouldn’t take hours. But never mind that—blame her instead for my radio silence last week!
Which leads into February’s rundown. Continue reading “February 2019: “oh shit, I need a new roommate” edition”
Snow, hikes, and tax forms rolling in, oh my! The first month of 2019 is done (yes, I had to double-check that I put the right year in the title and URL), so it’s time for a recap of my spending. Continue reading “January 2019: setting the bar high”
Y’all, before we get into it, it has come to my attention that I’ve been doing this “savings” thing wrong. I need to “for-reals” save towards FI with the money that I save. The money that I save that’s leftover every month from my income once you subtract out my spending and oh wait now my poor, weak girl brain is confused because isn’t that the definition of savings?!?
You mansplain to me on my own damn blog and you’re going to get snark, just sayin’ (unless you’re enough of a dick that I straight-up delete your comment. I was feeling petty when I got the notification for that one, though).
Apparently it’s December already; is anyone else feeling like fall didn’t actually happen and it’s nowhere near time for winter yet? No, just me? Okay, then. At least the end of November comes with everyone putting up their Christmas lights! Continue reading “November 2018: no-spend month and giving my retirement funds all my money”
Ah, October. It was a tumultuous month in the market and quite a few bloggers published ugly net worth updates. But hey, I don’t share my net worth so y’all don’t get to see the carnage 😉
Or, well, that particular kind of carnage. You still get to see all of the spending I’ve been doing lately! Continue reading “October 2018: it’s time for a no-spend month”
I’m gonna be quite honest: September was a damn expensive month. How the hell did I manage to pull out not only a positive savings rate, but a halfway decent one? I honestly have no idea (although this is the power of including my 401(k) contributions in my income as well!).
I didn’t post much in September: I had four posts, three of which were for things that happened in August (CampFI and August’s spending report). And a lot of that is because that month saw a few big changes in my life that have occupied a fair amount of my time, including the resumption of weekly chorus rehearsals. Ah, sleep on Tuesday nights, I miss you dearly!
And of course I had FinCon at the end of the month! Continue reading “September 2018: I was NOT expecting this”
Woohoo, I’ve got my computer back! Which I suppose means I’ve got no excuse not to post regularly this week. So here goes.
True to the way my life’s been going lately, August passed in a blur. Good thing I’ve got photos on my phone and a spending spreadsheet to remind me of what happened! ? Continue reading “August 2018: I hiked; I fell and got a permanent scar”
