Woohoo, I’ve got my computer back! Which I suppose means I’ve got no excuse not to post regularly this week. So here goes.
True to the way my life’s been going lately, August passed in a blur. Good thing I’ve got photos on my phone and a spending spreadsheet to remind me of what happened! ? Continue reading “August 2018: I hiked; I fell and got a permanent scar”
Surprise, it’s Friday! What gives with the ridiculous lack of posting lately, especially considering I’ve been in town and have had time to write? Well, I walked into the Apple store with a malfunctioning computer on Monday[*] and walked out without one. That is, I walked out without a computer, functioning or malfunctioning. Not sure how long it’ll be before I get my computer back with hopefully some new parts that means it works like it should, and in the meantime I’m learning just how many things I prefer to do on my laptop than on my phone. So my bucket list trip to Glacier was fantastic and it’s long since past time I published this post. How am I supposed to make everyone jealous if I don’t post copious amounts of photos of the park? Buckle in, y’all. This is a wild ride. Continue reading “Glacier National Park: close encounters of the bear and fire kind”
July was shaping up to be a fantastic reversal of my not-so-hot savings rates of the last few months. I was this close with a hefty petsitting paycheck, my COL adjustment kicking in for a very slightly bigger paycheck, a lower month for groceries thanks to gift cards, and not a whole lot else other than gas to get to the beach.
And then last weekend struck. Continue reading “July 2018: my biggest impulse purchase ever (and a $150 hiking weekend)”
Why the post on a Monday, not Tuesday? Surprise, I was on a podcast! Continue reading “FIRE Drill Podcast appearance”
Anyone else notice how when I have spendy months I avoid writing this post until much later in the month? Ahem, anyway. Continue reading “June 2018: thank goodness I’ve finally reached that minimum spend!”
Oh hi, friends. It’s Thursday. Despite my best attempts to keep at a normal posting schedule, things keep getting in the way, and Tuesday posts are particularly taking a hit for some reason.
This week, which was supposed to be quiet, unexpectedly turned into a shitshow Monday night. It involved both me witnessing an attempted serious crime/spending the evening talking to the police (serious to the level of I wrote everything down afterwards so I can remember in case it goes to trial and I’m called in. ETA: I am fine though, don’t worry!) AND the arrival of both my youngest sibling and car troubles that started happening an hour before they arrived here (thank goodness the previous owners of my car bought it new and therefore I know they took care of it, plus I still get a free oil change once a twice a year from them, aka my parents!).
I got up early both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings to be at the mechanic right when they open before going to work, and you know how I write posts the night before they go up? I was too tired last night to stay up as late writing as I normally do, so I got up way too early in order to finish writing this on Thursday morning because I AM GOING TO PUBLISH A POST TODAY, DAMMIT.
Let’s talk about something that’s not attempted [serious crime what the fuck] or car issues, shall we? Continue reading “An update on my unofficial clothes shopping ban”
YOU GUYS. I DID IT.
After my May spending report, that “student loans” line item is going to disappear and I’m incredibly, incredibly happy about that. Continue reading “My completely unsexy debt payoff story”
It’s likely if you’re in the DC area and reading this (or you happen to live right near where I grew up ?), you’ve probably met me (so people can attest to the fact that even though I’m anonymous I am a real person!). Because I love meetups. I love the large group meetups, I love smaller meetups, I love one-on-one meetups. The community really makes this ridiculous blogging hobby I have worth it.
And I just made my debut appearance at a large group event: I spent last weekend at CampFI Mid-Atlantic with about 70 other money nerds. Continue reading “I went to money nerd camp (aka CampFI Mid-Atlantic)”
In case you missed it, I asked for a raise and a title change in January.
When I left off with part two of the Job Saga over a month ago, I’d been doing a lot of waiting to hear back about my raise/title change request. While I’m still largely in waiting purgatory, things have certainly happened since then.
I hadn’t yet applied for the internal position when I wrote that post, but I changed that a few days later. And was granted an interview. Continue reading “Doing hard things, part 3: the plot thickens”
